The Ups and Downs of Being an 'Occasional' Gambler

Just wanted to share something with you guys tonight which I hope you'll enjoy reading!

It's no secret that my "gambling time" has more than halved over the last two years with the arrival of the little ones and my duties here at AskGamblers, which I wouldn't change for the world  . Going back 4 years ago I was pretty much playing every day! Deposit after deposit, casino after casino, I knew about every new game, every provider and pretty much the ins and out. Whereas now, the time I take to pick up new things has drastically changed, and today got me kind of reminiscing!

It made me think of the changes it makes from being someone who plays every day to someone who only gets to play now again and when time allows!

I've been thinking have I saved money? Pretty hard one to answer this. Yes I'm making considerably less deposits but obviously that means considerably less withdrawals! I'm not someone who has ever kept a record of my outgoings and in-comings so who knows with this one! I can tell you something though I really do miss the big withdrawals!

Next...the slots. I get to learn about new slots from you guys now and sometimes it takes me weeks until I get chance to even play a new release. This is definitely a downfall to not playing as regular as I was playing. It also means when I return to a casino from my last visit there's a ton of new games there that I've never played and I find this overwhelming never knowing which ones to try

On the plus side - Now when I look for new casinos there's loads there for me to try. Whereas before I'd be searching every day for a new casino to come out that I can play at!

Do I miss playing all the time? Nah...I definitely don't. I actually love where I am right now, I may take longer to try new games and may be a bit behind but I get there in the end!

So yep, that's pretty much the life of an occasional gambler, not sure how many more of you there are like me? :p

In this case, and in most other cases too, Michael Jackson has always said the right words...YOU ARE NOT ALONE!  :D

I had to undergo some drastic changes in my everyday gambling habits ever since all my privileges were taken away and removed from me. I couldn't play my favourite money-making games anymore, because all bonuses were banned from me, then the games went for an upgrade and never played the same again. I have tried to replace those few money-making games with other games but have failed miserably till this day. I don't think it would ever be possible for me to be like how I was back in the years of 2013 and 2014. Those were the best 2 years in my entire gambling life!

In 2015, I had to struggle from square one, with zero balance in my Neteller, and starting everything all over again like a totally fresh gambler. That was a very painful struggle...a very long and enduring struggle...but I've come a long way since then and have since settled down with my 'new' gambling habits! No more betting with big bets. No more playing everyday as I like. Scavenging whatever free spins and its winnings to play on those few favourite games of mine, like DOA, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Pimped, amongst others.

Despite everything, I am very thankful that I still have some Playtech casinos that keep me going on and on, so far. Grand Reef and African Palace keeps me playing a few times a week with their free spins and quizzes, especially with their 'Hangman' word quizzes, 'Where in the World' quizzes and the 'Picture Jigsaw Puzzles', which I have been successful in almost every one of them! Those frequent $10 - $25 prizes that I have won kept me playing on Safari Heat and Blade every week for free, well almost!  :D

I only have to make a deposit when my fingers get so itchy and there aren't any such quizzes around to win some free chips. My deposits now are mostly in $10 amounts wherever possible, except at Grand Reef and African Palace casinos, where the minimum deposit amount is $25.

My habits have since seen a drastically total change from what I have been doing 2 years ago, but I ain't complaining. Big wins and big withdrawals are all a thing of the past for me now. Today, I'm nothing more than a small fish still swimming in the vast ocean...and surviving!

All I could say about it is ... welcome to the club, dear. ;)

How do all of you manage to keep playing for so long?  My experience so far is that I lose 95% of my deposits.  The pay outs are few and far between.

I have no idea how to keep playing without going bankrupt!

Hi Nicky and Welcome to Askgamblers.

If i may ask, are you a high roller or low roller?

Which casinos do you play in?

What games do you mostly play?

I'm a low roller.  I've been playing sites like Lucky247, Spin Palace, Royal Vegas.  All slots.

Am I playing on the wrong sites?

I guess those are all microgaming sites with microgaming slots. I am not saying those are not good sites. Maybe i would suggest you try multi platform sites like videoslots, slotsmillion. They have microgaming slots and alot of others as well.

According to me....gambling should be done in control. Most of the time it is observed that people get addicted to it and get into depression when they start loosing. So, it is better to play in your limit but the best way to control is this, that start playing online. There are so many affiliate sites who offers thousand of casinos like < snip >Try such affiliate site and it will help you in enjoying and also won't make you addicted.

I think your gambling sounds very healthy now cocopop, and makes a great case for not all of us being degenerates who need the law to protect us from ourselves!

I've been playing more recently, and if I'm honest it's starting to get me down a bit. When I wasn't playing quite so much about a year ago, I'd occasionally hit a little withdrawal from a no deposit I found in my email and that was great. Now that I'm depositing more again, and losing the majority of those deposits, it's actually making me feel much more negative about playing at all.

I think what I'm saying is the more you play, the more exposure you have to that house edge... the more of a ripoff it can feel, especially when you lose quickly.

I think I'm going to start enforcing a few more deposit limits on myself in the new year, as I think less is definitely more when it comes to slots.

Maybe you could make it your new years resolution?
