Kazzy
Hi gamblers since joining ask gamblers I've been reading a lot about the payout variance of slots. I'm a player who just plays and has never taken the variance of games into account but I'm now thinking maybe I should be. So is there a way to find out the payout variance or what games fall into the high, medium and low levels? Do casinos publish this information? I would really appreciate any help understanding the variance thing better.
Fiekie247
Hi Kazzy Casino do not post that information, however casinos just shows the RTP of the slots, if there is a short description it might mention its high variance. However Play N Go has some really good High Variance slots - Moon Princess, Rise of Olympus, Multi Fruit 81, Reactoonz(Very High Variance) just to name a few. High Variance providers are Push Gaming, Big Time Gaming and Endorphina - 90% of these providers slots are high variance, so whenever you play them, make sure you have a decent budget. Netent, Quickspin and Nextgen are low ro medium variance slots, however they have the Odd one of 2 high variance slots. I am sure other members would give you more info when they see this thread. Now can you tell me which slot provider is your favourite or that you play on a daily basis, and I can tell you which slots from that provider are medioum to high variance. BTW do you like low or high variance slots? ValDes and cocopop3011
Kazzy
Thanks Feikie247 Until I joined ask gamblers I didn't even know that the slot had variances, haha I just thought I was unlucky. Recently I've been playing Redrake games and had a lot of luck on Asp of Cleopatra. It seems to be the game I keep going back to. Also Isoftbet and realistic. Base game pays nothing hardly and empty after empty spins. Free spins take forever to trigger as well. Try Heavy Metal Warriors, Shoalin Spin, Hot Shots from iSoftbet - They are all highly volatile but pays well if they in the mood.
Afi4wins
To really define the variance of any slot game can mean explaining a lot of things! But very basically, the variance of a game can be known by its stated TRTP (Theoretical Return To Player, or just RTP) percentage, as defined by the game provider. The higher the percentage, the lower the variance...but not always true! Anyhow, a game with a 97% RTP is expected to be of lower variance than a game with a 90% or lower RTP...in a nutshell. Some games may have a good 96% RTP, for example, but can actually be a high variance game, like in Dead Or Alive for example. The paytable of a game can also indicate the variance of that game...some games even come with a stated RTP for quick reference...but like I said, what you see in the paytable is not always true! A low variance game usually have low win values for all the symbols, with the max possible single win in a spin of less than 250x the total bet, maybe up to 500x. A medium variance game could pay up to 2000x, a high variance game can pay anything up to 5000x, a very high variance game can pay over 10,000x the total bet amount. However, games like Dead Or Alive, Immortal Romance, Bonanza, etc, are high variance games, but have the potential of being a very high variance game. Nothing is straight forward where games are concerned...and 'trickery' abound within each game! A low variance game can actually eat up your credits like a high variance game, for example! Experience over the years not only would make you a wiser player, but also make you become more familiar with the trickeries of the game! cocopop3011, ValDes and TheAverageGuy
Afi4wins
Personally, I do not care much about any game's RTP or stated variance...but I do look at them just for a quick glance, but not taken seriously. What I care more about is the game's paytable...that's the actual backbone of all games...whereby all the possible payouts have been predetermined and predefined! Learning to understand a paytable is no easy task...it takes a lot of 'reading and understanding between the seen lines'...what you see is not always true...and what you don't see can kill your wallet very quickly! cocopop3011
pinnit2015
Betat etc allow you to filter the games between HV and LV. It’s not an exact science but gives you a general feel. Pitching the right variance is pretty key for software developers and quite a hard task. Pretty much as above...most providers specialise in one or the other. But they can change - for example, blueprint were typically low variance in the past but now producing some HV slots (napoleon/some like the megaways releases) The less the games pay in the base game, the normally the higher they are (not exact but usually a typical indicator) In terms of striking a balance between base game wins to tick you over but with a big bonus payout, I find that Novos have it pretty much nailed on.
