The UK are OUT of the European Union

Recommended Posts

So I imagine you are all aware of what's happening in my country at the moment!

It's massive, it's The Referendum. On July 23rd myself and the rest of the UK will be voting as to whether or not we want to leave the EU or stay in!

It's huge over here at the moment, I mean literally everyone is talking about, debating about it, I for one will be happy when it's all over!

I've already made my mind up as to what I will be voting, but the decision has not come easy. I'm not very political and I certainly don't claim to know a lot about this in fact I know very little and my decision has changed to what I first thought I would do. But after discussing in great detail with family members and friends I have now made my decision.

I'll reveal what I voted after I vote  :p

This vote could potentially change the entire future of my country, the future in which my children will grow up in so I do hope that the right vote is made.

Whatever the British choose sincerely hope they will NOT regret afterwards....

In my humble opinion, European Union concept and idea was and still IS one of the greatest human achievements of all time and only the history will judge whether its advantages worth all the troubles... If you ask me, YES, it worth all that!

Very interesting! I've heard a lot as to why we should stay in and what worries me is that no country has ever left the EU.

However with that being said I will reveal my vote. I will be voting for the UK to leave the EU.

I have listened to both sides of the argument and I believe that it is time for us to stand on our own. Yes there may be disadvantages but for me the advantages are far more attractive to create a better future for my children. So as of tomorrow I will be placing my OUT vote.

The future of this world, if there's still such left, lies in the joint efforts of people trying to find similarities between them, not differences!

My personal opinion of course, but you may remember this post as I'm pretty sure the British will deeply regret if they vote for Brexit.

Peace, sister.  :friends:

The votes are in and the UK vote to leave the EU!

There was hardly anything in the vote I can't believe how close it was. There's a lot of backlash at the moment everything is up in the air and our PM will be resigning! But I'm positive that the majority of my country has made the right decision for the future of our children.

wow the referendum was so close. I cant see how the UK goverment will take such a difficult decision since there is such a thin difference in the UK public opinion. After all the  referendum is not binding , what will follow is a matter of policy rather than law, you can take for example what happened with the Greek referendum last year

Also if there will be a Brexit it will happen in the range of 2 or more years so dont be haste to change the topic title ;)

Haha, it's less than a day since the referendum and now Scotland, Ireland and even London want to vote for their independence!! :unknw:

I think this whole brexit story would soon become the most popular European soap opera  the world have ever seen. :spiteful:

Yep I believe Scotland and Ireland who both had a majority vote of IN will go for an independence referendum. But things have already settled like the value of our £ for example. The fall out is huge over here at the moment but what people are forgetting is that we have 2 years to settle down, 2 years to negotiate new deals!

I believe the outcome was 100% the right one for the future of our country. I just can't believe how much the nation is split over it.

  • 1 month later...

This topic  has caused the most heated arguments I can ever remember any political topic causing ever. I know couples who have split up and are probably going to get divorced now because they feel so strongly about this issue, it really is unbelievable!

What I will say about it is that I hope the government has the guts to follow through with what the public has demanded - I'm not too confident that is going to be the case right now which makes the whole thing a pointless excercise, even me and my boyfriend had several huge rows over this and if it was all for nothing that would just be ridiculous.

In Theresa May? The whole "Brexit means Brexit" line? It doesn't mean anything!

There's battle lines drawn across the press and the house of commons. If the legal challenge that's in the courts right now decides parliament must approve the exit the government will have a hard time getting it through when over 100 of their own MPs don't support the decision to leave.

I really do hope your right though !

I'm guessing you voted in then?

To be honest raverbabe I don't really follow politics and I certainly don't claim to know a lot about this. I had my own reasons for voting out but when it comes to getting into a debate about it I tend to stay quiet  :p

Oh god no!!! I absolutely voted out, like you have mentioned I feel it is outrageous that unelected bureaucrats are creating laws and forcing them onto every country in the bloc. For example the fact we are forbidden from applying a zero rate of VAT on womens sanitary products because of EU regulations is nothing short of a scandal. The government has openly stated their wish to zero rate these essential items but are unable to do so because of EU rules.

David Cameron promised to renegotiate the terms of our membership prior to the referendum but the other european leaders made an absolute fool of him and he came home with his begging bowl empty. I think that anybody who does have a strong interest in politics will have decided right then that they had no choice but to vote OUT.

In my opinion the "Remain" campaign blew it by concentrating their entire campaign on "Project Fear", every day they would have another article in the media insisting thousands of jobs would be lost, our currency would collapse, we would lose all of our influence and power on the world stage... people just didn't believe it.I don't blame you for dodging a debate on the subject - as I mentioned, me and my boyfriend have fallen out horribly about this issue more than once, and I have seen similar arguments between my close friends with both sides believing the other is bigoted, uneducated and/or uninformed for having the opinion they do. For that reason I'm reluctant to spell out my own primary reasons for voting out here but I will say I feel very strongly about it and would vote the same way again if another referendum were called tomorrow without questions. The suggestion in the media that the majority of us "OUT" voters now regret voting the way we did makes me laugh, if anything I think many more people would vote "OUT" now most of the threats the remain campaign were throwing around have failed to materialize.

I can't believe the amount of people that fell out over this. Facebook was crazy! The day the votes came in that we were OUT my Facebook feed was full of hatred. Not towards me of course, I never got involved in the arguments but there I really was shocked that people who were friends for years fell out over this.

I've always said and always believed what will be will be.

The entire Brexit referendum came to life and the outcome it had for one very simple reason, which most of civilised Europe (Germany and France) call racist and discriminating. Let's not fool ourselves, it's all about stopping the immigration from Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq and so. Politicians can turn this to trade laws or any other way they want, but in the end stopping immigration is the core of the Brexit.

On one hand yes it's racist to deny someone the right for a better life when you know their country is in the middle of a bloody war, but on the other hand no Brit wants to get killed from a bomb, kalashnikov or  a truck on the streets of the town where they were born and raised. The unfortunate events in Germany and France by ISIS radicals who came there by posing as refugees brought this on Britain and Europe as a whole, so the future remains very shady and uncertain. We'll have to wait and see how it plays out.

In the end the politicians will have their yachts, estates abroad and money in offshore accounts to live a happy life, while the regular people have to cope with the consequences.

For me the immigration issue is much less about the refugees,  they make up a tiny proportion of our intake anyway, and much more about the economic migrants.

Our schools and hospitals are full to bursting point, British families are struggling to get their own children into their choice of school,  and the teachers are simply not equipped to cope with huge numbers of children coming into the system whose primary language isn't English.

In the north where I live and where the Brexit vote was by far the strongest many towns and cities have an unemployment rate amongst white British more than double the national average. These people are not lazy, they simply can't afford to compete with the eastern Europeans living 10 to a house who will do the same jobs for less than minimum wage so they can send the money back home!

I think I should stop right there... This could get out of hand!

It's OK since you nor I are trying to discriminate or offend someone. It's the way things are in your country and you have every right to speak your mind and share the general opinion of the community you come from. We don't have that problem here on the Balkans as unemployment is our everyday life and nobody wants to come and live here :D Heck we're probably poorer than they are :D

Absolutely, I don't blame the people that want to come here - they haven't been breaking any laws and if I were them I would probably have wanted to do the same.

The trouble is, leaving the EU whilst being a drastic solution, is possibly the only way to fix a problem that has been building up over several years. Even that may not be enough considering EU migration only makes up around 50% of the UK's intake!

Not at all dear - you are entitled to your opinion! It won't get out of hand since there aren't a massive number of fellow brits here so there's no risk of arguments and even if I didn't agree with something you said I certainly wouldn't say. We're all entitled to our opinions  :p
