cocopop3011 Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Let's face it - the UK has faced some pretty big changes in recent years, and things have gotten tough here. A recent study has shown that people in the UK are viewing gambling differently - lots are seeing ADs on the rise and 1 in 5 are saying someone close to them is struggling with gambling addiction. However, public opinion is basically saying they want to see stronger rules enforced, and people do not believe that self-regulation is actually working. The shift has changed from people being excited to gamble to being cautious about gambling and wanting harsher limits. What do we think about this, and have similar changes happened in your country? loceff13 Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago The proposed UK limits for monthly deposits online etc seemed really low to me considering you could walk down to a bookie and bet more in cash without being bothered. Seems like it's only set up to benefit brick and mortar businesses. NZ is prety well regulated for sportsbooks as we only have 1 legal operator(TAB, run by Entain) so problem gambling is harder, the Gov is also getting online operators out of that market for NZ. The downside is the same will likely happen for online casinos in NZ as Gov wants the revenue, if the likes of Leovegas has to share revenue with our Gov to operate in the NZ market the RTP will probably drop from 96% to 92% etc which makes it not worth playing or they will exit the market because NZ customer base is so small. I think in the next 2 years they will do it, it has support from both major parties :(. I don't think the public really cares about the online casino side of things, we have pokies in most bars in the country. Quote
Afi4wins Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Lets face it - gambling is no different from drugs! No matter how hard or how much control the Authorities put into regulating it, it will NEVER disappear! Gamblers are akin to drug takers - some do it for the high kicks, some just for passing time, and some for exciting spending fun. Try to stop them from doing what they like and they will rebel and revolt. Try to control them and they will do it hidden away behind closed doors. But if they are not controlled, they go all out and do harm! Yes, gambling is a REAL problem! Either it's BANNED completely, or TOUGH LAWS are put into control. No, nobody wants a gambling HOLOCAUST!
