What do you think casinos do with all the personal information they are gathering over the years?

Hi folks! :)

 

I'm in a mood for a good discussion tonight, so I'm already eager to hear your opinion about what do you think casinos do with all the personal information they are gathering over the years? Feel free to pay attention to all possible aspects of the question, I know it's huge. ;)

This is an extremely important matter and I'm really curious to know what do you think about it. So, please be serious and try to give your opinion as detailed as possible. Would be much appreciated. ;)

Hmm, I'm really quite surprised by the way online gamblers are used to underestimate the seriousness of such matters! And to provoke some real discussion (again :p ) would just point out a few questions and observations, which I find as an extremely important. And so...

 

Let's take as an example a midium-scale online casino with 100 000 - 150 000 players and let's say at least 2/3 of them went through the verification process at certain point. Now try to imagine what is the feeling to posses the personal information (including but not limited to scans of identification cards, driver licenses, credit cards, debit cards, utility bills, personal photos, authorization forms, and so on, and so on) about 100 000 people and how would you manage to deal with it?!

 

a) How do you store such an ocean of information, including e-mails, pictures and letters? What kind of a database would be able to handle all that staff?

 

B) What if the casino keeps a printed copy of all that sensitive personal information? Can you imagine what would be the size of a room, capable to gather 100 000 sets of personal documents?

 

c) What are the security measures to keep all that precious info safe? How are the databases and servers secured? Is there a physical security? Is there a proper Internet security?

 

d) What is going on with the information when the casino is changing owners?

 

e) What is going on with the information when the casino is closed? Who would guarantee that our database won't be sold to the first spammer in the row? Or to another casino with suspicious reputation? Or even to some criminal organization, dealing with credit/debit cards frauds?

 

f) Who is dealing with our personal details after all? Are these men and women reliable and trustworthy? Are they certified in some way? What is their personal responsibility if something goes wrong and the information, or a part of it, is lost or stolen?

 

Now, although your head is about to explode from so many questions, just imagine if the casino is not a middle-scale one but some of the monsters on the market, someone from those with millions of customers...

 

Hope you now understand HOW CRUCIAL are all these questions above for our OWN security and  and HOW LITTLE  we know about them! Actually the word 'litlle' is not right at all, because I believe we know almost nothing...

Just kidding! I know they share it with other companies ...hence all our spam emails.

 

To be honest, I believe this is a subject similiar to food poisoning! Your thinking how right?

 

Well everyone has done they food hygiene certificate yes? The course makes you think that everything you eat is going to poision you unless you absolutely do the right thing, cook it exactly right, store it exactly right, when in Hindsight its all just PRECAUTIONS. If you sat down and worried about every single thing you eat, from where it came from to how you are eating it you'd never eat a thing worrying about all the opportunities it would have had to get contaminated giving you food poisoning...you just have to be careful.

 

Pretty much the same as personal data....it is such a HUGE market...you can't do anything online without sharing some piece of your personal data....if you sat down and worried about how every piece of data was going to be used you would never want to use the Internet again. You just have to be able to spot the signs and use your head..be careful and not stupid.

 

That's how I see the subject anyway, that's my personal view and how I handle it. I only worry about it when I absolutely need to, and up until now, touch wood I haven't had to worry about it.

 

As to what happens to it...I don't know...do they do anything? Doesn't it just become obsolete to a company after a few years...for like inactive accounts?

That's why in the past few months my email got bulked of new casino invitation that aren't listed to askgambler casino list.... I don't trusted casinos that aren't listed to askgambler it's my opinion  :blush:

 

Seeing a casino, listed at our website doesn't necessarily mean that it's 100% safe and secure, Irine! But, you will be able to read our review, to read what other players think about it, to see all complaints against the operator and to check all important details, such as withdrawal timeframes, limits, methods and such like... And that's more than enough to make your own choice, right?! ;)

That's why i made askgambler as my midpoint of verifying legitimate and trustworthy online casino, and the good thing is it doesn't dissapoints me overall :)
