My name is Charlie McKeith and I am currently undertaking an honours year in Psychology at the University of New England, NSW, Australia under the supervision of Dr Adam Rock and Dr Gavin Clark. As part of the honours year, we have decided to do a project on slot machine gambling behaviour in order to hopefully improve exposure therapies for gamblers. The survey is completely anonymous and has been approved by the ethics committee at the University of New England.

We are looking for people that have played slot machines an average of twice a month in the last 12 months

We would be really grateful if you could participate, as the study will hopefully lead to increased funding for gambling research as well as increased knowledge surrounding exposure therapies for gamblers. The survey should only take 15 minutes to complete and can be viewed here:

Excuse me, but what is supposed to happen after we watch this boring "making tea" video? Because nothing is happening. And what does it have to do with previous questions from the survey. Are you collecting a views for youtube video or..??

So far, this survey seems like good planned spam.

Ahmmm, not sure I am following you?  :unknw:

This is how the survey looks - http://prntscr.com/7wjaa0

Yup thats what I got as well @ Valdes.

I would be more than happy to participate as long it's a private survey and it's not for any wrong purposes.

I have already done that. Seems like a serious research to me...

Well there are two videos one of 2 ladies making tea and one of playing slots in a land based casino. Anyway it seems like a legit survey and i would be glad if cmckeith13 posted here some of the results when he finishes his survey...

I'm working on it @ survey, but I have to take a break. It's a bit longer than I thought :p

And requires some concentration I don't seem to have right now. Although I'm halfway through it

What videos do you refer to?  I don't see any video... :unknw:

Hahahahahah! :D

Have just finished that 'survey' and listening to the ladies making tea. Maybe that's just a test gamblers nerves, or a well planned spam as Luciana suggested above. However, I have no intentions to give publicity to any ''survey'' or ''researcher'' how's not capable to do that in a proper way.

Good buy @Charlie McKeith.

And goodbye to this thread as well.

Hi everyone,

I just emailed admin and had my ban lifted. I am sorry not to have explained this better before posting/not being available to respond to any queries or problems people had.

Firstly, the survey is only intended to be used in a clinical sense and is not at all designed for commercial use.

Secondly, the videos used were uploaded from youtube to Qualtrics (the survey software used to create the online platform) because youtube videos are compatible with most internet browsers. These videos are not spam, the first is designed to be a neutral cue and the second, a gambling cue.

Finally, in terms of the video cues - one can only move forward to the next page once the 3-minute video has completed - an arrow will appear in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. This is now stated on the page where each video is displayed. Sorry if this caused some confusion.

It would be fantastic if anyone could complete the survey but I understand that it's 15 minutes that most of you probably don't have! If you do have the time though it would be greatly appreciated and will hopefully lead to some interesting results.

Thanks again,

Charlie.

Thanks Charlie :)

I didn't see any arrow, even I completed the video. Did it make any change if I rewinded a video a little bit? :D

There's a clock timer set for this part of the survey and you should stay there for at least 3 minutes /rewinding video will not make it faster :)/ until the arrow in question appear. ;)

Hahaha, clever, clever :D But unfortunately video is so boring...sorry Charlie :D Maybe I'm an addict and can't focus, who knows :D

Hey Luciana! Yep there is a timer on the page so you have to watch both videos in their entirety. Sorry, they are a little boring but thanks for giving it a go anyway. Charlie.

Maybe you learn to make tea?  LOL.  After you watch the tea video then there is that video of people playing slots.  It didn't make me feel like donating my usual couple hundred a night to my gambling addiction, it was boring.  It reminded me of those 8-Liner machines they have in the back of gas stations here in the states - real classy.

Funny I found the same or similar Self-help test in Holland Casino..

Most of these questions are the same for all websites and organizations trying to determine possible degree of gambling addiction. Didn't check those used by Holland Casino, but I guess this is the case...

Yeah, making tea is some serious science if you ask me. :p

Good to see you posting here again btw. :)

Thanks for the feedback CrazyDiamond, I will take that on board and pass it on to my supervisors. :)
