Casinos blackmailed from hackers?

Hey folks,

Received the same message from both BetAT and Slotty Vegas today since I am playing in both brands.

Wow! I knew hackers could go serious /even deadly serious/ sometimes, but this one goes beyond my wildest imaginations already! And the worst news is that they CAN actually do whatever they want and last week troubles of Neteller and Slotty could confirm it. :(

And because I am not afraid and would like to give my support to those who are trying hard to deliver a better gaming for us all, I've already made my first deposit for today at BetAT!

Seems like these DDos attacks are the norm these days. BetAt isn't the first casino that has been hit, and not the last one either I'm afraid

Well, I could understand hitting /hacking/ an online casino successfully and Slotty was a blatant example how hard these attacks could be. But to hit a huge company like Neteller ,TWICE in two consecutive days...! :o That's really really disturbing news in my humble opinion.

Wow! A ransom to a casino!! What is the world coming to!

Why I have the odd feeling that this would  be a serious part of our future... :( I mean, cyber technologies are growing rapidly in the last decade, but so do the hackers capabilities and organizations. And providing the fact that a huge part of the online casino industry is still way behind when it comes to implementation of all latest and top notch security measures, maybe we are at the beginning of a series of such terrible events.

Hope to be proved totally wrong though. :)

Casinos will have to pay to implement security technologies if they want to keep their customers and we will see what is going to happen.

Cyber attacks are expected because there is a lots of money in this story.

Then we are in a serious trouble... Most online casinos are struggling to stay above the water and constantly cutting costs at the expense  of staff, trying to operate with less people as possible and that applies to all departments - financials, support, IT.. The results are obvious, since a reputable casino like Slotty could be hit for hours and blackmailed afterwards then just try to imagine what these hackers could do with the other brands if they want to.

  • 7 months later...

It's been double confirmed - BetAT is under a severe DDoS attack again and it seems this time it's much worse than ever! That's really sad to say the least and start wondering how far the hackers could possible go nowadays... If they can take down one of Europe's biggest and most reputable casinos for over 30 hours now, don't even want to think what might happen with a smaller operator.. :(
