Mfortune request - scam?

Recommended Posts

Hey so i was looking online for jobs on gumtree and saw a guy hiring bar staff, asking to be contacted via text only. So i text him asking was he still looking staff etcetc and he had text me back almost immediately saying no sorry, all roles have been filled but 'if you're still interested in making money let me know'

Immediately this screamed scam to me but i asked what 'making money' entailed and he said he deals in bank transfers for a company called mfortune and he needs people to withdraw into their bank accounts, which we would withdraw together and take 50% each. He then said he'd need to call me and was pretty persistant, i told him i'd call him tomorrow if im interested.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Is it a trick/scam?

cheers

Not any idea and I think that this is not connected to casinos.

Anyway, I am quite sure that it is a scam.

Perfect example how to scam scammers: http://www.scamorama.com/smurf.html

Everything is arranged. I will fly into Amsterdam on
Thursday, with the 5000 euros, and I expect the
arrangements to flow smoothly from your side as well.
I will fly from Norway, Oslo via Helsinki and my
flight number is AY 841, and I will arrive in
Amsterdam 09:50 AM, okay?

You need to send someone to meet me at the airport and
this is VERY important; He should meet me in the
arrival hall and he must carry a sign with my name in
capital letters, written on a white sheet of paper
with a black filter pen; (my name is btw spelled OTAN
POSKEEN, not POSTEEN as you wrote in your last mail, I
will ignore all other signs). I'm a VERY careful man
and I do not want to encounter some impostor. For both
your and my safety I suggest/require that we also use
a simple code phrase to identify that we both are who
we present us to be, okay? So, when I see a man a sign
with my name I will approach him, whereby he should
say to me:

At this point I might point out that 'otan poskeen' means 'I'll blow you' in Finnish (and Mr Roger is after all, meeting the plane and passangers coming from Finland) :D :D :D

Ok change of plan the guy just rang me there, hes english, sounds about 20-25 years old. He ran me through it and im tryna figure out how i can get scammed via this, basically he says hes got a friend who works at the casino and he just transfers money to new accounts as a 'bonus' tho its withdrawable. basically the guy who rang me meets me in town, transfers the money to my account and i withdraw splitting 50/50

even if he took all of the money, thats all iv got to lose surely? or can my credit/bank be affected?

why are scams so complicated these days ffs

Sorry for the triple post, another update.

After talking with this guy most of the day i've come to the conclusion hes an extremely good scammer, his background stories and answers are all spot on but when i asked him how i would get the money tomorrow he said 'easy, il withdraw it to your bank via the account iv made with your details' sounds straight forward enough but then i asked hows that possible because i bet with paddypower, ladbrokes, bet365 etc online all the time and they take like 3-5 days to withdraw. He basically laughed off that idea and said online casinos couldnt do business that way and promised me it could be withdrawn within 1-2 hrs as it was not a bank transfer.

He then hung up and went back to txting me, hes now gone for 'dinner' and asked me for my full name, dob, address, bank no and sort code.

For future reference is there anything harmful that can be done with that info? He even suggested i empty my bank acc so im reassured hes not scamming me

I'm afraid this doesn't sound legal..which we can't condone on this website. All I know is that no bonus is instantly withdrawable without a wagering requirement, if a casino gives you a no wager bonus - generally this will come in the form of free spins not outright money you can withdraw.

If you are considering this I would take great caution, this guy may not be scamming you personally but I doubt what he is doing is legal. And again I must stress we in no way at Ask Gamblers condone any fraud to a casino

I'm glad your not getting involved dwatson, I'd hate for you to get in trouble!

Scams baffle me too! There are so many of them these days sometimes its hard to determine which ones are actually scams and which ones are genuine. But I'm glad you could come here and speak to us about it. I'd love to see you around the forum...I have a feeling you could do some great posts!

Hmmm, it depends on where you live and the level of securitymeasurements of various institutes/banks do use in your home country . Normally spoken the info you mentioned should not be enough to scam you.

Ok, dwatson, I think it is now obvious this is some stupid scam trick and you have been given some good advice how and why to protect yourself.

I have no intentions to leave room for describing potential illegal schemes here at AskGamblers.com as we are proud of being a defender of justice, not crime. ;)
