Hey everyone! Blackjack is such a fun and exciting game, but have you ever found yourself scratching your head over some of the terms? Don’t worry—you’re not alone! Whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been playing for a while, knowing the lingo can make a big difference in how you approach the game. I thought I’d share some of the most important blackjack terms I’ve learned along the way: Burn Card After shuffling or switching dealers, the top card is discarded to prevent players from predicting the first dealt card. This ensures fairness in the game. Bust A hand exceeds 21, resulting in an automatic loss for the player. If the dealer busts, all remaining players win. Card Counting A technique to track the ratio of high to low cards in the deck. Skilled players use it to adjust their bets, although it requires practice and isn’t permitted in all settings. Cut Card A plastic card used to cut the deck, signaling when the dealer will reshuffle. Double Down Players can double their initial bet after their first two cards (usually totaling 9, 10, or 11) and receive one final card. This move can lead to significant payouts when used wisely. Face Cards These are Jacks, Queens, and Kings, each worth 10 points. Hard Hand A hand without an ace or with an ace valued at 1, leaving no flexibility in the total value. Heads Up Refers to a game where only one player competes against the dealer, common in online blackjack. Hit Requesting an additional card to improve your hand total. Knowing when to hit is a fundamental skill. Insurance A side bet placed when the dealer's face-up card is an ace, betting that their hidden card is worth 10, creating a blackjack. Late Surrender Players can surrender their hand after the dealer checks for blackjack. Multi-Deck Many casinos use multiple decks (six to eight) to make card counting more challenging. Single-deck games are rarer but exist. Push A tie between the dealer and player, where neither wins nor loses and the player’s bet is returned. Soft Hand A hand containing an ace valued at 11, offering flexibility in strategy. Split If dealt two cards of equal value, players can split them into two separate hands, doubling their chances of winning. Stand When a player chooses not to take additional cards, satisfied with their current hand. These terms are the foundation of understanding blackjack and can enhance your strategic approach. If you’re looking for a more detailed guide, I recently came across a helpful blog titled "Blackjack Terminology | Important Terms for Players" that dives deeper into these concepts. It’s worth checking out if you’re eager to refine your skills or learn how to use these terms strategically. What are your thoughts on these terms? Have any of these significantly impacted your gameplay? Let’s discuss!

thought I would share this from one of my Blackjack books Blackjack fallacy The object is to get to 21 Casino literature often mistakenly states that, "The object of the game is to get to a total of 21, or as close as possible, without exceeding 21." This however is a misleading statement. The true object of the game is to win, is it not? And to win you must beat the dealer's hand. It's true that having a hand whose value is close to, but does not exceed, a total of 21 means your chances of winning the hand are good. But often, the best strategy is to stand, despite the fact that your total is far from 21, especially when the dealer has a weak upcard. In this case you are hoping the dealer will bust, whereby you win no matter what your total.

Does anyone else notice on live Blackjack tables the kind of player that makes a split on a 20 hand or just hits on 17-19 hands? There's always at least one of them, and rarely more than five, and they make the most boneheaded move possible. In some cases, at the expense of the rest of the players.

I haven't seen Grosevnor mentioned here. So, I'll start with saying that I joined their site a little over a week ago and regularly played their various Blackjack games. I tried the slots and roulette games in the demo option. The slots were fine. Of course, I lost more in points than I put in, but that's expected, which is why I'd never put real money in them. The roulette games were mostly nothing out of the ordinary, but a couple had an odd tendency to consistently hit streaks of the opposite colour I bet on. Then, when I decided to change colour from red to black, FINALLY, it hit on red. I suppose losing streaks aren't unusual, but that struck me as suspicious. As for Blackjack, I found that mostly, during the demo plays, I'd experience more variance in losses and wins, but even in the demo version, one Blackjack game in particular had the concerning tendency to give me a face value card whenever I ended up with a hand totalling 12 or 13. This didn't always happen of course, but it happened so often, I'd say it was 90% of my experience with it that it occurred. With real money, even on low stakes Blackjack, I found that I would more often be dealt "hard hands" than during a demo play. Making my chances of losing higher. I decided that it wasn't for me. Maybe I'm just really unlucky, but it raised too many red flags. While I try and brush up on my strategy, can you help recommend another site for me to try?

Hi all, I'm new to all this. Just wondering why Evolution Gaming (where I like to gamble) is geo-restricted in Australia on a lot of gambling sites? I found Kahuna Casino isn't geo restricted in Australia, but by what i've seen in the forums, Kahuna create excuses for massive delays in paying out winnings, so I would avoid them if I can. Also, i've had experiences of delays myself. Additionally, I am aware that the geo-restrictions can be overruled by using a VPN in a country like germany for evolution gaming. I have seen streamers on twitch teach / do this... So my questions are, why is it geo-restricted, and if I considered using a VPN would this be a report-able offence / illegal? I have found certain websites like roobet pay out cryptocurrency IMMEDIATELY compared to other casinos taking lengths of time to process, not to forget that roobet offer $1 minimum bets compared to $2 minimum bets... If anyone has any insight into this if they could let me know that would be great. Thanks - Mattholomew2

yesterday, i tried to count cards with myself as the dealer and player i played with one deck, and of course with the counting rules (1-6 : +1; 7-9 : 0; 10 - ace/king/queen: -1). I wanted to test the strategy first, before playing for real. I started dealing the cards... short story is that house won 8 times and i only won 2 times, although i did count each and every card correctly! So my question is wether counting cards actually works?

Maybe this has been posted before and if so apologies but I have seen something when I play online Blackjack that I do not like and I think thet it should be dealt with by somebody. When paying NETENT online BJ (not the live game) I began to notice a pause when you bust. For example, say I have 12 and need to hit, if the next card is value 10 then there is a small pause and then the busting card is dealt. Now, I have noticed that busting directly from 12 to 22 is something that happens 72.4% of the time (checked over 8000 hands), but that is another issue. Also, the pause occurs when you hit 21 from 12, so there are two situations where the pause occurs. I have checked this with friends and family and they all agree 100% that there is a pause. Why is this the case? I raised it with the casino but they just came back and said it must be your browser, which is nonsense; I asked then to take it up with the provider (NETENT) but then they just disappeared on me. Before anyone accuses me of being a bad loser, I am not, my RTP over 32,000 hands is close to expectation, but this pause is not a good thing. It doesn't matter how much the casino quotes 'independent audits etc etc' the fact is that this game has patterns and I find that unacceptable in what is supposed to be a highly professional game provider. I know that others have seen this, so what s your opinion? Unacceptable or so-what? Mark H

Hi folks Has anyone see noticed the following: I have been playing regular BJ on one of the big sites that uses one of the big software providers. I was happy with the game, my winnings in line with good strategy and all seems well except I noticed something curious. Whenever I was at the last bet of a bankroll the 'RNG' would somehow give me a very attractive split or double options that would mean that I had to do a fresh deposit. At first I thought I was going crazy but then it happened every time. Additionally, the dealer tends to get more BJ's in this scenario. It was happening all the time so I raised it with the Casino and they just gave me the usual, 'all our games are tested'. I have no complaints about the card distribution in the actual game, streaky dealer miracles aside (but everyone says that) This seems to me to be a clear 'incentive to deposit' and whilst we are grown-ups and can make our own decisions, when you have two nice Aces to split, it's very very tempting to go to cashier! Surely either illegal or at least, horrible cynical. Anyone else seen this? Best wishes

I am sure this sound strange but I actually read an article a few months back. I was trying to search the same article for reference but couldn't find it. It said that there are certain days of the week that are lucky for the gamblers while playing. Apparently the research showed that certain days were better for Poker players, some days for BlackJack players, etc. My lucky days come by fluke although but have you ever noticed a pattern with your winnings based on which day of the week it is?

Hypothetical situation, what if you won $23,000 at the casino and you go to cash out. Would you be taxed if you came and tried to cash out all at once? Another question. Would you get in trouble if you cashed out $7,000 or $8,000 then came back 15-30 mins later and repeat?
