Finland online casino deposit identity laws

Hey , new here , i just have a question.

So i have this complicated situation where i registered to gamban as i noticed my gambling was getting out of hand and one month in i find myself playing on a casino that allowed me to enter and deposit pretty much blowing whole salary chasing the loss as i couldnt cover the bills. I am in uk and tried to claim an refund on the grounds that i shouldn't have access to de site or be able to deposit. It was rejected because they say i selected finland and not uk as country of origin , even tho the site i was playing had uk in the url. I was never asked to provide any documents untill i launched the refund claim. i know uk has laws in place to provide identity documents beforr beign able to deposit , was wondering what are finlands laws. I also made a claim on Ibas a month ago whitout any response , was also wondering if its there anything else i can do as i struggle with debt , councill tax is past due and i got a credit card wich i emptied just to stay afoat.

Any response is apreciated. Acc on the casino was created a year ago and has same email/phone with gamban registered account.

Also part of the reason me playin there was casino also sending me promotional text/mail while on gamban and mw beign stupid.

Thanks , Marian.

Hey there and welcome to AskGamblers Forum.

Sorry for not responding earlier, missed your post somehow.

So, you are Finland player who registered and played on UKGC licensed operator, right? Then you registered with a Finnish ban register which I haven't heard about tbh but imagine it's pretty much like the Gamstop for UK punters. If that's the situation with your account then I wonder what makes you think an UKGC licensed operator is supposed to comply with Finnish self-exclusion register?

Hi sorry, I missed this too not sure how!

So, when you selected Finland did you just make up an address? Or did you add yur actual address and just change the country? Which casino is it and what do you mean they had uk in the  title? .co.uk you mean?

I used all the info as always , everything thrutfull i dint even realised i selected finland as country of residence , itch to play after gameban kicked in and after an text/email from the casino ( wich was on another language i dint understand ) link lead me to the uk version of the site , wich allowed mw to login and deposit whiout any verification. Escaled to ibas and waiting for two month for a conclusion.

Edit : guts casino

But you are playing from the UK you said in your first post, right? Sorry I'm just a bit confused why you tried to claim a refund? So you're playing from the UK and the casino accepts players from the UK but you accidentally selected Finland. But the issue is that you have registered on Gamban and they still allowed you to play is it? And you did not select Finland to try and de-void them out of knowing where you were actually from?

Registered to casino a year before gamban.

A month after registering to gamban i recieved promotional materials from casinos.

Could log in , deposit and played my whole salary , while on gamban , with an old account same information , was not asked to identify or proof anything.

Clear as mud

1. Do you mean Gamstop? - Gamban's just a blocking app.

2. Where did you select 'Finland'? - you said the casino a/c was created before you 'signed' up with Gamban (i presume you mean Gamstop?) - why would Gamstop allow you to select non-UK?

3. What are Finland's laws to do with anything? If you're in the UK they're irrelevant.

We're told that casino's only check the register when you try to login - if that's the case I dunno how they're meant to know who's on it to stop promo material - still reckon some casinos periodically check it regardless.

Very few, if any, successful cases against getting money back from Gamstop related complaints

Sorry, but i've read this 4 times and can't follow it.

Same! I read it over and over and not sure it actually makes much sense. Also had to Google Gamban as I hadn't heard of it before.

Well thats depressing , meant gamstop yes , other ppl talking about gamban got me confused. I dont know when i selected finland but thats the reason they gave me in rejecting refund. I asked about laws in there wondering if they have to do any checks on legit finland users as doesnt seem normal to not get asked about any documents depositing close to a thousand pounds.

Remember the asking for documents may not be needed - eg. the checks on age and identity can be done in the background (Sky Vegas/Willy Hill etc) - not one of them will ask you because presumably they run their checks in the background.

The document request is a bit of a red herring - this is Gamstop and i know what they'd also say: you breached the terms of Gamstop in attempting to login to start with that makes it all null and void.

To get more info and to decide where the 'fault' lies you need to do a subject access request to the casino and find out what response they got back from Gamstop. It may not be the casino's fault if GS came back with a negative response. Gamstop is now a mandatory licence condition but i'm still not convinced it's fit for purpose.

Just to be clear - in the Gamstop registration you put Finland or in the Casino?

You can report any concerns regarding the operation of Gamstop to the UKGC but they'll come away with a boilerplate response of 'thank you for bringing our attention....' - they won't turn and say 'give the guy his refund'

Thats exaclly what happend .

Also waiting for an ibas response forever , the ordeal happend in december , casino response took arround a month , and waiting from ibas from then.

Im not talking about Gamstop documents , im talking about casino not trying to indentify anything just taking money and saying thanks , pretty sure if i turned and won there was all kind of "oh wait a minute this that dont match"

Okay, so... Bottom line here is that there's obviously a discrepancy between the personal details registered with the operator AND Gamstop. This fact alone is more than sufficient to raise various alerts.

Further, looking at the Gamstop T&Cs makes me feel rather pessimistic about the success of your refund claim - https://prnt.sc/rl0w1x

Also, will be surprised if your case is even accepted and  processed by IBAS considering the fact that all UKGC approved ADR entities are simply refusing to deal with SE related cases.

Thats the problem , i wasnt even aware that i selected wrong country when i registered with the casino , as many sent me materials in another language than english but whenever i folowed a link got me to an uk version of the casino. Email and phone , even the zip code and street , house was the same on both instances. And when i get told they may do internal checks , how does a deposit pass if they denied refund on the base of country not matching , does that check doesnt hapen on the credit card deposit ?

On alot of other sites i was asked to provide documents before i could make ANY deposits. On this one i was not asked once anything , no id no cc partial number .

Well then, IF what you claim here is true and ALL your registered personal identifiers (except country of residence obviously) such as email, names, DOB, address, etc are matching  then you have a pretty strong case actually.  Was about to offer you using AGCCS, our complaints service, but that would be impossible considering the fact you have already filed a case with IBAS, the operator's ADR entity. In this situation ,all you could do is to wait for their decision.
