cocopop3011
Hi guys So, times are changing and we're doing a bit of research and would really value your opinions on this topic. For those of you who have been here a while you'll know we already have a similar topic but it's rather dated now and things have certainly changed in the industry over the last couple of years. What I need from you guys is Pros and Cons of Instant Play vs Download and is any one of them better than the other. Go..... (Any input is appreciated guys you know how much we value all of your opinions) Sharon. (Pinning Topic until Monday)
Afi4wins
For me, it's always downloaded version first, online version if no other choice! Whenever I play on Playtech or Microgaming games, it has always been on the downloaded version - the games are preloaded and therefore starts almost instantly! No waiting time, no wasting time for the game to load as in online versions. This is the biggest difference between the two. When my ISP is crawling, to load up an online game would require 2 hours or more...there have been many times when even 12 hours failed to load up the game! I really hate this...and the waiting time is simply horrendous! Even with normal ISP speed, nothing beats the speed and the stability of a downloaded version game! If I have a choice, I would want all softwares to have a download version! cocopop3011
Afi4wins
For a player like me, who plays only at a few casinos regularly, then downloading the casino software is not a problem. For some players, they may be playing at maybe 10 to 20 casinos regularly, so those casino softwares would take up a big chunk of space in the harddisk. About 3 years back, I was in such a situation...I had about 20 Playtech casinos downloaded into my desktop, plus a few more Microgaming, RTG and Rival casinos...so my Drive D was a casino drive literally! Hahaha. But for crazy players, like most players are, they may be playing at hundreds of casinos regularly...so how to download all of them? These are the players that need online versions, so they don't have to worry about where to download hundreds of casino softwares! cocopop3011
Afi4wins
Casinos have their own problems too...one server for the online gaming...another server for the downloaded version...two servers mean double the operational costs...so that's why they always prefer the online version...and that is probably also why Microgaming casinos finally stopped supporting their downloaded softwares...to cut maintenance and operational costs. cocopop3011
Afi4wins
Nowadays, only Playtech, RTG, Rival and Pragmatic Play casinos offer a download version of their software. cocopop3011

Thanks Afi for your input I'll make sure the relevant team read it. I'm actually the opposite I've never really liked download versions they've always slowed my laptop down and I only ever used them when I wanted to access more games/ Nowadays that isn't a problem any more and in fact I can't even remember the last time I used a download! I knew you were a fan though. In regards to the places that only offer download now I think even the tiny list now will disappear in the future.... I knew you were a fan though. In regards to the places that only offer download now I think even the tiny list now will disappear in the future.... You're most welcome my dear. Yes, I have no doubt that downloaded versions of casinos would eventually disappear in time, with probably Playtech being the last to go. I'm still playing the download version of Playtech games, for the very simple reason that I do not have to waste time in waiting. I've compared with playing online of the same games, but it is no where good as the download verson One more important thing I need to say... I have found out that playing online using 3G or 4G connection (4G especially) is a monstrous data muncher! In just 1 hour of play online, I have used up almost 1G of my data volume...sometimes even almost 2G...!!! ...which is absolutely monstrous and undesirable for fixed data volume users like me (mobile Broadband)! In comparison, playing on a downloaded version of the same games only used up between 300MB-400MB...so it saves up to 5x on my data volume! That is why I would always prefer a download version. cocopop3011

Couldn't agree more in regards to data. I NEVER play slots using my 3G or 4G unless you want a huge bill at the end of the month it's ridiculous. Only ever play using my Wifi connection where the data is unlimited so I can play all day every day (if I so wished ) Afi4wins
pinnit2015
The only difference i notice is on the video poker - used to be the case that there were more downloadable games than browser but over time that faded. As for the speed - we have a 140 connection where we stay so i don't/didn't notice any difference. I still prefer the downloaded VP. Sadly it was all going to move away - some casinos are reporting that 60% of their revenues come from mobile versions so it wouldn't have made any sense to plow cash into what is essentially a desktop model. Not played at 32 Red for a while so i'll not be surprised when i do and Viper's gone Alas. cocopop3011
