SOS, I am addicted to gambling - what to do?

I am a pit boss in a casino. I have been in the business since the 1960's. Let me add to this thread, and pay attention because you won't hear it from anyone in your casino.

Gambling is supposed to be fun, a diversion. It isn't.

It is a thriving business that is based on your ego, thinking that you can outsmart pure mathematics. You can't.

If you want to play a little for fun, that's great, but if you let us control you, we will. Your budget should never exceed 3% of your annual income, because statistics say that is how much recreational money you have, You won't be able to stop if you go over that. I hate to be impolite, but when you go over that, we own you. If you come back to our casino to win back your losses, we own you. If you hide money to play with, we own you. If you run to the ATM during your play, you are totally out of control. We own you.

Do you like to hear that?

Today a player that has lost 2 million dollars in my casino told me he is a different player than all the others. He thinks he is, but he isn't. He is just another loser.

Casino games are not based on luck. There is a pure set of mathematics in the way they are set up and even when you do catch a lucky streak, we know it will end. We can wait, because we know that you will bring all the money back, plus more.

Re-read the addiction message and then read it one more time. There are plenty of people willing to support our business, but you don't have to be one. If you have a gambling problem, get help.

Oh boss man I love you you are an absolute gem!! You are of course spot on. I have such a controversial opinion on gambling addictions and for that reason I will not share them in this post because I do not want to hurt anyone's feelings and it is just my view but when you said

There are plenty of people willing to support our business, but you don't have to be one. If you have a gambling problem, get help

I couldn't agree with you more mate!

I am a little bit addicted  :D but i always play from my separated money and don't risk my monthly income.

Well, I hope that a solid part of those so called 'separated' money were coming from AskGamblers, in return of writing reviews. ;)

Wish you luck while using the money, by the way! :D;)

Sometimes an addiction to gambling (or other addictions) may be caused (or at least helped) by medical therapies, means that there is a range of medicines which might have dangerous effects on you. One example is Ropinirol,. a substance added to certain pharmaceutical products. Read carefully warnings and instructions or ask your doctor.

Do we have a doctor here?

Bossman, if more people can be like you, there'll probably be less bankrupt players in this world, and even more players in the know about the whole truth of gambling! It will certainly NOT stop people from playing in a casino but at least they are in the know of what they will be up against...and not expect a win every time, or winning regularly even. The lure of becoming an instant millionaire can be too great for most people, except for millionaires. They want to be billionaires!  :spiteful:  :D The more gamblers become aware of this, the better off they will be.

Thanks for your most insightful and beneficial comments Bossman!  :hi:  :good:

Sorry to disappoint you Sharon, but no, I have nothing to do with 'bossman'. All I know about this person is that he or she (don't have a clue to be honest  ) is probably a real casino pitboss as all said sounds really quite true. But what touched me was the last paragraph of his/her incredible post, where it was recommended to players to re-read my humble guide! Made me feel so good and useful to the gambling community.

Ah! ValDes replied just as I posted this message, hehehe.

Whatever happened to your newer avatar Sharon? Prefer the old one is it?  ;)

Ahh sorry that's me not reading the full thread! Tut tut

This paragraph you mean?

"Today a player that has Lost 2 million Dollars in my casino told me he is a different player than all the others. He thinks he is, but he isn't. He is just another loser.

That's quite a powerful paragraph. Is Bossman not about anymore? Shame.

And what is a pit boss does anyone know?

The paragraph I meant was the one below and especially the bolded part, which I consider as some sort of an acknowledgement for my guide SOS, I am addicted to gambling - what to do? ;)

[\quote]

Pit Boss, or pitboss (its more popular in this version among online gamblers) means the casino manager currently on shift at a casino, being it online or BM (brick and mortar).

Ahhh, a newbie...so, welcome to AskGamblers Forum TRM!  :hi:

Yes, it's always good to share thoughts and ideas, especially here at AskGamblers. Everyone can benefit from it.  :good:

Weeell, I must admit...I did not laugh, TRM, but I certainly smiled  :) ...because I have not seen any sentence anywhere else that's as long as your sentence TRM...hehehe. If you can put commas and full stops at their appropriate places, that would certainly help us to read your message better. ;)
