Online Blackjack

Hello, I am new here so forgive me if I seem naive. I decided to play Single Deck online Blackjack as I enjoy the game in real casinos where I use perfect strategy (which I know off by heart). I chose what seemed to be a reputable site, which I shall not name in case that is not the done thing.

 

I played with £5 bets three place multi hand. I played 300 hands and lost significantly.

 

I was a bit baffled as to how the dealer always gets 19,20,21, BJ so much. I assumed that it was just a bad day for me, so I packed it in and tried again the next day. Same thing happened. The dealer would get 6 BJ's on average to my one, for example, and nearly always get another face card after the initial face card.

SO I guess my question is to people on the forum who are experienced in playing on line - is this normal? I was a bit shocked at what happened and wondered if I have just had TWO bad sessions. I have therefore stopped playing (which is disappointing, I have a broken leg so trips to the actual casino are out just now).

 

Am I paranoid or just unlucky? I requested the Game Logs but they would not send them to me.

First of all you requested the game logs and they wouldn't send them to you?    And what was the reason they gave for not sending you the logs?

 

Blackjack is a topic that crops up in the forum now and again with players having very similar stories to yourself. I'm not a player of Blackjack so it's really hard for me to comment on this one.

 

The casino you were playing at, I assume it's a reputable one?

Yes, it is not one of the biggest and best on your lists, but it's well established. They just duck and dive my questions

Honestly I have the same feeling with online BJ (not live). My feeling is that is is similarly "controlled" as to slot games. Sometimes you can win, most often you loose. With BJ I sometimes hit a good spot, were I have a great play. But most often the dealer is far superior. Basically always he has already a 10, follow by a card 8-BJ! Or he starts with a low card such as a 6 or lower, but inevitably gets to 21! 3 BJ in a row? No problem for my superdealer...

Hi Mark and welcome to AskGamblers.

 

I also love BJ but I have had the same feeling than you in the past, specially playing virtual BJ games. Maybe PAF BJ, at PAF casino, worked well for me for some time but now I think that software was updated too. 

 

Well, I think if you're playing one deck BJ and you say you use some kind of strategy, then you're counting cards, and take in mind virtual one deck BJ simulates a shuffling after every hand.

 

All above, in my opinion, let us live dealer tables as the best choice; hence, you will need to adapt your strategy to play with 8 decks with a percentage of penetration about 50%, making almost useless counting cards, so the best is to use basic strategy. 

 

However I have not totally confidence playing BJ not online, not at my local landed based casinos, if all the decks are not shown before their first shuffle, and at the time you enter or sit at some table, you have to play with cards already on it; almost never I can see the boss giving new decks to the dealer, and you certainly know that "if some ten value cards", or pictures as many player know them, are removed before shuffling the cards, then that will mean a greater edge for the casino.

 

In short, now I'm better playing baccarat, hehe.

The suggestion that 'we change games' seems a shame, it is surely supposed to be fair. I'm a scientist, their programming is very very clever. Nobody would ever be able to prove it isn't even though it is clearly a smart way to gradually take you out. I will change games, I can see how it works. Very very smart.

Actually if the game isn't fair, you absolutely could prove this quite easily - the well known "Wizard of Odds" website has a lot of previous analysis of on-line Blackjack games, he analyses first and seconds cards as well as player hands and overall results. There have been instances of shady casinos offering rigged games but they are few and far between.

 

What software are you playing at present? I have played a LOT of on-line blackjack and found NetEnt and Playtech's to be amongst the worst. I recommend trying Microgaming, in particular the double deck games seem very fair to me. Alternatively why not try the live blackjack games where you can see the dealer handle the cards? I have established there are ways for some of these games to be (theoretically) rigged, but I've never heard of an actual case. It's much slower in terms of hands per hour, but if you will feel more confident playing I'd say that is probably a worthwhile tradeoff.
