Lines in slots

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone I have a question about playing slots, mostly video slots I guess. So a lot of games let you change the number of bet lines and I'm not sure, does it matter if you play all of them? is there like a magic amount that gives out the greatest odds? If there was one it'd really help. Thanks :)

Like most things in slots, the answer is "it depends". In most cases, no, it doesn't affect your odds. The more lines you have active, the more likely you are to get a win, but the less likely it will be significant. This is a what variance means. More lines = less variance.

HOWEVER, if the game uses expanding wilds, playing all lines is very important.. this is because you're essentially getting free wilds that the casinos factor into the overall return, and you need all paylines on to get the most from them.

Thank you very much for that tip Diamond, you're always so useful!!! You have no idea how much I appreciate this because I have been playing 5 lines on Hulk for a while. Definitely gonna stop doing that now I feel kind of dumb not even thinking about that

Okay, does that have anything to do with some slots forcing you to play all lines?? Or is that just like trying to get you to bet more money at a time??

Thank you Black Diamond I've done the same thing as Cheryl so that is very good to know thanks. :)

So it wouldn't mean the same thing for like stacked wilds. Just expanded because you get added ones only if the line is active, that makes sense.

Cheryl i'd guess that it probably does. something about the features i think. Like, if a feature has nothing to do with the slot game it would not be good if players could play less lines and get same amount of cash in feature.

I help when I can... I'll expect the payment in the mail by christmas :D jkjk! No problem guys.

Cheryl, Greg is right about the ones with compulsory lines. It's not always the case, but by and large these kinds of games have bonus rounds that have nothing to do with the game itself. Rather than set up different rewards based on your overall bet, they just force you to play with max lines.

And yeah Greg, it only matters for expanding wilds since stacked wilds are individual symbols whose value is proportionate to how many lines you have active. Expanding wilds replace worse symbols only if all lines are active, which is why for games with expanding wilds you should be betting on all lines.
