This seems to confuse a lot of players. You withdraw a few hundred euros without any trouble, then you win bigger and suddenly the casino wants your ID, proof of address and sometimes bank statements or proof of where your money came from. I work in licensing and compliance (at Gofaizen & Sherle), so I see the other side of this. Most licensed casinos use thresholds. Small withdrawals go through with basic checks, and once you pass a certain amount, deeper checks kick in, including source of funds. It’s also not a one-time thing. Anti-money laundering rules expect casinos to keep watching accounts, so a bigger withdrawal, a new payment method or a change in how you play can all trigger new checks, even if you were verified at the start. Adding to this is that from July 2027, EU rules will require checks once a player’s total transactions reach €2,000, counting everything together rather than per withdrawal. The frustrating part is that most casinos don’t tell you where those thresholds are. My personal recommendation for what could help in practice: verify your account right after you sign up, before you play, even if the casino doesn’t ask. Use a payment method in your own name. Keep a recent utility bill or bank statement ready. And read the KYC section of the terms, since some casinos list exactly which documents they’ll want. Has anyone had a casino ask for something that felt over the top, like source of funds on a small win? Curious where people think the line is.
